Pen Association and Respect for Pen

TEHRAN There are some organizations and associations that try to clutch at every straw to settle accounts with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The latest case is the trial of those who participated in the Berlin Conference in April.
The Pen Association in an open letter regarding two of the participants, relied on a baseless news story which was dispatched by the AFP, and then made some false conclusions.
Quoting an unnamed judicial official of Iran, the AFP said earlier that two organizers of the Berlin Conference had been indicted.
The organizers, Sadr and Rostam-Khani, did not participate in the conference but were interpreters. According to the letter of the Pen Association the interpreters can be sentenced to death.
"It is really amazing that an association which is related to pen and writing easily falls prey to a baseless news," one expert said.
The news about the indictment of the interpreters was baseless and the Iranian judicial officials denied it.
But even after its denial, the Pen Association without even investigating the case wrote the letter.
When we talk of the Pen Association, we expect the members to be sensible and sensitive to what they write, one experts said adding, unfortunately, the letter indicates that the writers of the letter are influenced by hidden political hands.
Such amateurish measures seriously dents the prestige of the association, reducing it to a tool in the hands of the actors of political games.
What the people expect from a pen association is that it must respect the pen, and should not become a tool in the hands of politicians.
